Anthony (portrayed by Hopkins) is a difficult 80-year-old man, living defiantly alone and rejecting the carers that his daughter, Anne (Olivia Colman), encouragingly introduces. Anne, loving and devoted, can no longer make daily visits and struggles to deal with her father’s memory loss. How much of his own identity and past can Anthony cling to? How does Anne cope as she grieves the loss of her father, while he still lives and breathes before her? How can she live her own life as she cares for her father around the clock?
