Three Painters on Painting / Exhibition Closing Event: Eti Jacobi Lelior: Monkeys in the Mist

The art of Eti Jacobi Lelior (b. 1961, Jaffa; lives and works in Tel Aviv) unfolds a unique exploration of the history of painting. Since the early 1990s, Jacobi Lelior has created a multifaceted and consistent body of work, stretching the boundaries of painting as broadly as possible. Her works resonate with the language of painting in its countless expressions: from cave paintings to French Baroque art, from Walt Disney animation films to iconic works by Paul Cézanne and Marc Chagall.

Based on these foundations, and with reference to the unique architecture of the gallery, the exhibition focuses on paintings created in the last decade. The most prominent representations of her so-called "abstract" works, all created using acrylic on canvas, are showcased in the exhibition.

Three painters will engage with the exhibition and Jacobi Lelior's work from a personal perspective:

Yair Garbuz (b. 1945, Tel Aviv–Jaffa), one of Israel's leading painters, served as the head of the Art School at the Midrasha at Beit Berl College between 1997–2011. He received the 2015 Rappaport Prize for an Established Artist. In addition to exhibiting his work, Garbuz is also a satirist, teacher, and curator.

Tsibi Geva (b. 1951, Ein Shemer), one of Israel’s leading painters, sculptors, and installation artists, served as a professor of art at the University of Haifa and has exhibited extensively in Israel and abroad. In 2015, he represented Israel at the 56th Venice Biennale.

Eti Jacobi Lelior (b. 1961, Jaffa), one of Israel’s leading painters, has presented her works in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Israel and internationally. She was awarded the 2022 Rappaport Prize for an Established Israeli Artist.
