Movie Night at Tel Aviv Museum of Art / Dreaming Walls: Inside the Chelsea Hotel | Maya Duverdier, Amélie van Elmbt (2022)
The Museum is delighted to launch a new series of events linking its ongoing exhibitions with movies from Israel and abroad. Once a month, we will screen a movie relating to a prominent exhibition, preceded by an introductory lecture by either a curator of the exhibition or one of its featured artists.
The series program is linked to the exhibition program; we recommend visiting the exhibition before viewing the movie!
Dreaming Walls: Inside the Chelsea Hotel | dir. Maya Duverdier, Amélie van Elmbt (2022)
80 minutes, English, with Hebrew subtitles
The legendary Chelsea Hotel is nearing the completion of a lengthy renovation. Only memories remain from its turbulent, eccentric and at times scandalous past. Some of its residents eagerly await the culmination of the renovation, while others fear the radical changes it will impose on the place’s delicate social fabric and refuse to vacate it. They all hold on forcefully to the myth of the place. The movie offers a rare glimpse into the apartments of the artists who still live in the hotel, and links the glorious past and former residents with the present.
We recommend visiting the exhibition My Name is Maryan before viewing the movie
The movie is preceded by a short lecture by the curator of the exhibition, Noa Rosenberg
