Niki de Saint Phalle: un rêve d’architecte, 2014 | Dir. Louise Faure, Anne Julien, France, 53 minutes, French & English, Hebrew subtitles
Introductory lecture: Galit Landau-Epstein, Associate Curator of Contemporary Art
Niki de Saint Phalle left an indelible mark as a sculptor throughout the world. Born to an American mother and a French father, she moved freely between the two languages. She grew up in New York and married at a young age, and traveled widely around the world until finally settling in Paris. At the age of 25, she encountered the works of Antonio Gaudí, which shook her world and inspired her. Since then, de Saint Phalle insisted on creating her own private visions, not letting anything stand in her way. In her monumental sculptures, she dealt with femininity, dreams and nightmares, magic, and, in particular, with the creation of alternative spaces that would touch the most profound emotions of viewers and provide a sensory experience. This is a unique film about an extraordinary artist.
