Film screening at the Museum / Marina Abramović & Ulay: No Predicted End, 2022
Marina Abramović & Ulay: No Predicted End (2022) | Director: Kasper Bech Dyg
Denmark, 96 minutes, English. Hebrew subtitles
The screening will be accompanied by an introduction by Tal Lanir, Associate Curator for Special Projects
For more than a decade, artists and former couple Marina Abramović and Ulay explored the limits of their bodies, pain, and suffering through a series of provocative performances. The pair decided to separate in 1988 in a final performance, in which they walked toward each other from opposite ends of the Great Wall of China. After that, the two hardly exchange a word – until the making of this film.
Here, they sit together and reminisce about their past, as clips of their performances are shown. They reflect on their shared path, and their conversation transforms into an intimate discussion about their separation and Ulay’s imminent death after having been diagnosed with cancer. The result is a moving and sobering film that is also a testament to a unique period in the history of modern art.
The film is screened in collaboration with the "EPOS" International Art Film Festival
